Now is time to focusing on smart seafood choices and the health benefits of eating a diet rich in seafood! Eating fish, specifically omega-3 fatty acids found in seafood, has been proven to help people maintain healthy brains as they age.  After thousands of tests and years of research, scientists have found proof of several health benefits from different types of seafood. In a recent study, doctors found that participants with low levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood had slightly smaller brains and scored lower on memory and cognitive tests than people with higher blood levels of Omega-3.  Some research even suggests eating fish like salmon can lower the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, lower the risk of developing heart problems, and the risk of having a stroke. Seafood can also better your cholesterol! Eating more fish which is high in polyunsaturated fats including omega-3 fatty acids and make smart choices about cooking oils and low-fat dairy products are two easy ways to improve your cholesterol without restricting your diet. The most recent U.S. dietary guidelines recommend at least two servings of seafood a week. Some dietary experts recommend three times a week to obtain the highest level of health benefits.
